MONDAY is MACRO DAY: WEEK 2: Damselflies

MONDAY MACROS: Blue-Tailed Damselflies.

My Monday Macro series continues with a few shots of Blue-Tailed Damselflies taken last week on a visit to Brockholes Nature Reserve.

I love watching these little creatures; they’re so delicate and brightly coloured. There are about the size of one of those sewing needles that you can’t thread because the eye is too small.

All these are shots of blue-tailed, even though their bodies are different colours.

This one’s body is an unusually bright shade of blue. I had to check back to my RAW files to make sure that I hadn’t done anything wrong in the post-processing. But, no, it really was this vivid electric blue.

This one looks as if he has eyes in the back of his head:

I’m hoping to see some butterflies before next week’s MONDAY MACRO, though they seem to be in short supply so far this summer. Tune in next week to see what I’ve managed to find!
