Castelo de São Jorge (Saint George’s Castle) is a Moorish castle occupying a commanding hilltop overlooking the historic centre of the Portuguese city of Lisbon and Tagus River. The strongly fortified citadel dates from medieval period of Portuguese history.wiki.

What Wikipedia doesn’t tell us is that this medieval castle, which dates from the 11th Century, has some wonderful red doors.

Your photos brought some lovely memories to mind of time spent with my mother and sisters in Lisbon. We rented an apartment in the old part of the city, near the castle. I have to check my spam folder regularly as I’ve found a few comments there that shouldn’t be.

Thanks Norm . These particular doors just wouldn’t be the same in any other colour. And thank you so very much for your weekly challenge.

Despite its bold color, this door looks like a secret door.

Indeed yes. Let’s sneak back in at night and explore

Beautiful photos of shadows and light on the yellow stone. They only manage to highlight the red doors even more!

    HMB · July 9, 2017 at 19:04

Thank you Joanne. I’m so pleased you see it the way I did.

Another beautiful red door series, Helen! I love the rad gate opens to the stairs especially. 🙂 <3

Thanks Amy. I love doors and I love red in photographs, so I was in seventh heaven wandering around this castle.

I'm always pleased to read comments.....
